As well as the logo, the reverse depicts four players in a high marking contest with colour highlighting the football and a decorative background arch. The design also includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL 1858–2008 and the Mint’s 'P' mintmark.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin's obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
