Discover Australia is a magnificent collector coin program from the historic Perth Mint. Scheduled for release between 2006 and 2008, the program comprises pure gold, silver and platinum proof coins depicting Australia's amazing fauna, landmarks and flora.

Proof Quality 99.99% Pure Gold

These 2008-dated coins are struck from 1/2oz, 1/10oz and 1/25oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality. (1/2oz denomination used in obverse illustration.)

Fauna Theme – Frilled Neck Lizard

The reverse of each coin depicts a Frilled Neck Lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii), which lives in Australia's hot tropical areas. A member of the Dragon family, it has developed amazing strategies to avoid being eaten. Thrashing its tail and hissing aggressively, it also flashes up a brightly-coloured 'frill' around its neck. When a startled predator hesitates, the Frilled Neck Lizard dashes to safety on its hind legs! The year-date and The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark also appear in the design.

Australian Legal Tender

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coins depict Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.

Uniquely Australian Packaging

Each coin is housed in a superb presentation case with a lid made from Australian jarrah timber. The case comes in a protective outer shipper featuring Discover Australia's distinctive logo.

Numbered Certificate of Authenticity

Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

Limited Mintage

The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,000 1/2oz, 2,500 1/10oz and 25,000 1/25oz coins worldwide.
