New 2008 Presidential $1 Coins to be Introduced into Circulation

2008 presidential dollar coinsThe new Presidential $1 Coins will be issued in 2008 by the United States Mint. These coins will feature the images of James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren – the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Presidents of the United States.

The new dollar coins will be launched into circulation every three months starting with February 14, 2008. The first Presidential one dollar coin will feature the image of James Monroe followed by John Quincy Adams Presidential $1 Coin, which will be introduced on May 15. Afterwards Andrew Jackson Presidential $1 Coin will be issued. Its due date is August 14 and then Martin Van Buren Presidential $1 Coin, coming November 13.

"We hope the next four Presidential $1 Coins will not only jingle in pockets but be spent as well. These coins are convenient. Each Presidential $1 Coin weighs less than four quarters, and they're especially useful for vending machines and mass transit," stated United States Mint Director Ed Moy.

Having the goal of increasing the use of the new dollar coin as well as raising the demand of businesses and bank customers the U.S. Mint decided to launch B2B pilot program. The program is to be introduced in metropolitan Washington, D.C.

Such initiative, coming from the Mint on, will aim towards shareholders within the metropolitan Washington D.C., whose participation will be essential in spotting and bypassing barriers to circulation. The Mint wants the new Presidential $1 Coin to be important not only for collectors but also to be of use as an easy alternative for many transactions.

"We will be working with several local retailers and banks in a concentrated area to facilitate the increased circulation of Presidential $1 Coins. We want to see more of these coins used in daily transactions and given out as change like other denominations," said the Director of the Mint Mr. Moy.

This year the Federal Reserve ordered and launched into circulation more than 800 million new Presidential One Dollar Coins. The four coins that were issued first featured the portraits of George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.

It is worth noting that each new coin will be transported to banks as well as other financial institutions. The coins will be shipped in rolls and small bags, and they will not be mixed with other coins of the same denomination.

Banks may consider ordering and placing each new dollar coin up to two weeks before the coin is issued. Thus, by the time coins are ready to be issued, financial institutions will have provisions on hand. After being issued the Presidential $1 Coins will be available in banks for 4 weeks. Banks have also the opportunity to re-order the new coins after the four-week window, this, however, will take place only in case there are remaining coins.

The ordering process starts two weeks before the introduction of the new Presidential $1 Coins. In order to ensure a good usage of the dollar coins the U.S. Mint provides free information for financial institutions and retail businesses. The information is available on the Mint's official website, which also provides high resolution images of the coins.

'In God We Trust' on our currency is a violation of the first amendment to the Constitution. Why do you hate America?

I love the dollar coin. The bill only gets dirty and grose and bent. The coin is so convenient and is almost the same size as a quarter. If only parking meeters took them. As a bank teller, there has been a huge jump in the number of requests on the coins. But hopefully soon they will be a part of everyday transactions. I try to hand out at least one per transaction.

If the coins do not have 'In God We Trust' on the front or back,, please do not accept them. It is irresponsible of the US Government to have placed this motto on the edge of the coin.
