Australia's Perth Mint minted an outstanding jigsaw commemorative coin that was struck with the aims of marking the 220^th anniversary of the First Fleet's arrival in New Holland. The latter is the old name of Australia and it was used back in 1788.

The coin of the new issue found in the center of the medallic jigsaws features a standard Perth, one-ounce, .999 fine silver, proof dollar 40mm flan. The reverse[¹¹³⁹] of the coin depicts a colored illustration of Gov. Arthur Phillip as well as a sketch of the New Holland continent. It also features an inscription that reads "The First Fleet 1788." This inscription is found within a circular border of the artistic waves.

The obverse[¹⁰⁸⁴] of the jigsaw commemorative coin includes the Ian Rank-Broadley image of Queen Elizabeth II. It also shows the date and the denomination of the numismatic item.

In addition, the coin appears surrounded by a medallic 12 piece jigsaw. Each piece illustrates all one of the 11 ships that formed the First Fleet. The names of ships are as follows: Alexander, Borrowdale, Charlotte, Fishburn, Friendship, Golden Grove, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales, Scarborough, HMS Sirius and HMS Supply. The twelfth piece of the jigsaw shows a stylized compass along with the constellation of the Southern Cross.

The obverse of each of the twelve medallions features the image of the Southern Cross that is found above stylized waves.

The weight of each medallion from the jigsaw is .333 ounces. Thus the total weight of the coin plus jigsaw medallions equals to five ounces ASW.

The number of minted[¹⁰⁶⁸] one-ounce silver dollar proofs[¹¹¹⁶] is 5,000, however, only 1,500 will be available, all of them being surrounded by the 1788 First Fleet medallic jigsaws.
